SOLAR PANELS IN SPAIN, A SMART CHOICE!
If you are planning to buy a house in Spain or you are already an owner of a property in Spain, then it is definitely worth considering the installation of solar panels and heat pumps as environmentally friendly and cost-saving energy solutions. In this blog, we will explain the advantages and possibilities to have a good installation carried out even with a limited budget and thus save a lot of money on your energy bill.
SAVING ON YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL
What most (new) owners of their Spanish property do not realize is that the pool pump is one of the biggest electricity consumers in a house. The pump must run for several hours every day to keep the water clean and clear and therefore requires a fair amount of electricity. If the pool is also heated, to be able to use the pool even in the slightly cooler months, the costs can add up considerably.
Then in the summer, and in some homes also in the winter, the air conditioning is often used to create a pleasant living environment in the house, which is also a significant consumer. The air conditioning can of course cool and heat, but can also be used to dehumidify the house if you are not there for a period. An hour a day is enough to prevent your house from smelling musty when you return after a while. Good ventilation ultimately provides a "healthy house"!
Both the pool pump, heat pump and air conditioning are thus the larger consumers, but it is also the equipment that first yields a substantial saving on your energy bill with the installation of solar panels. In Spain, the sunlight yield is naturally large and therefore ideal for installing solar panels. And they help you to make considerable savings on your electricity bill.
IMPROVING ENERGY CERTIFICATE
In this blog (CEE 2033) we have already reported that from 2033 onwards, the energy certificate for all homes in Spain must have a letter D. Know that with the installation of solar panels you can increase the certificate by 1 to as many as 3 letters, depending on how many devices in the house have an electrical supply and how many are connected to another source (such as gas for example). This can also be a great advantage for future developments and possible sale of the property.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS - 100% CLEAN ENERGY
And, last but not least, there is of course the contribution you make to the environment with the installation of solar panels. Energy generation from fossil fuels causes significant pollution for the planet and contributes significantly to climate change. However, solar energy is a renewable and 100% clean energy source. And because the sun in Spain shines so many hours, a solar panel here yields 200% more than a panel placed in Northern Europe. The payback time of a panel in this region is therefore an average of 5 years.
Immofy also cares about the environment and tries to contribute. For example, we have a solar panel field with a capacity of almost 15kW, both company cars are electric and are charged with the generated solar energy. In addition, when building the office, consideration was also given to the environment by, among other things, high-quality insulation (saving in winter and summer), the use of lime paint and other natural materials for the finish.
For the installation of solar panels, home batteries and EV chargers, look for a reputable company with an office on the Costa Blanca. In terms of costs, we cannot set specific amounts (all projects are of course custom-made), but we hereby show an overview of average prices (May 2024) for solar panel installation:
Please note that these prices involve an installation without a battery.
In short, the installation of solar panels in Spain offers both financial and ecological advantages. It's a smart choice that not only helps you save on your energy costs, but also contributes to a sustainable future.

Climate changes in Spain
As in the rest of the world, Spain is also affected by global climate change. Every country and area has its own characteristics, but for Spain it mainly concerns temperature increases, longer and more frequent droughts, increasing heat waves... Below is an overview of the effects that climate change could have on Spain's climate over the next few years.
By 2033, all homes in Spain will have at least Energy Label 'D'. Is this achievable or a pipe dream?
Energy labels are used to indicate how energy efficient a home is. Within the European Union, it is mandatory to have an energy label for homes that are offered for sale or rent. This obligation has been introduced in Spain since 2013, while the Netherlands and Belgium have been doing this since 2008. In 2022, the European Union decided that by 2033 all existing homes in the EU must have at least an energy label D, a decision that is expected to be definitively confirmed in 2024. This means that
ENERGY: Sustainable investment in eco-friendly solutions in Spain
The fight against climate change is more topical than ever. Protecting the climate and reducing our ecological impact are crucial steps to counter the effects of the climate crisis. In Spain, with its abundant sunshine, we can benefit from sustainable solutions such as solar energy, which not only reduce carbon emissions but also contribute to a more independent and secure energy supply. Beyond solar energy, there are other environmentally friendly solutions.
